Understanding the HVAC System

Updated: Jun 26, 2022

The unit is equipped with a hybrid system run off a Nest thermostats for maximum efficiency.

What is a hybrid system? A hybrid system utilizes both radiant heat and forced air heat. The concept is that the radiant floor heat will heat the concrete by pumping hot water through piping in the floor. The concrete then heats and radiates the heat upward. The concrete will hold the heat for a long time continuing to heat the air above. This is a much more efficient way to heat the home. Then the forced air (furnace) is used to dial in the temperature a few degrees.

MAIN HALL THERMOSTATS

The thermostats in the main floor halls control the forced air. Just turn the dial to the desired temperature and the warm or cool air will circulate through the home until the temperature is reached. This method should reach temperature relatively quickly if all windows and doors are closed.

LOWER LEVEL THERMOSTATS

The thermostats in the bedrooms and lower levels, control the radiant heat. These are heat only. This method take along time for the floor to warm up as it warms by circulating hot water through the floor heating the concrete as noted above. This can take several hours. It will also take several hours to cool off. Cranking the temperature will not heat any faster. Slow and steady is the key.

AIR-CONDITIONING

The air-conditioning will only work in the summer months. There is a factory setting inside the unit that will only engage above 15 degrees Celsius. Do not try and use the air-conditioning in the winter months. Just open a window.
